I was so excited to do my personal art retrospective for 2023 that I didn’t think to look back on the blog itself! I started in December 2021, so the blog is pretty much exactly 2 years old.

Top Posts
The top three most popular posts of all time are:
- Should watercolor beginners start with a limited palette?
- What’s the difference between Phthalo Blue (Green Shade) and Phthalo Blue (Red Shade)?
- Color Spotlight: Perylene Maroon (PR179)
I’m pleased that folks like the limited palette post since it’s one of my favorites (and most thought out arguments).
Here are some more of my personal favorite posts:
- An Artist’s Guide to the Moon – Because I learned so much about the moon!
- The “Warm” and “Cool” Color Binary Doesn’t Make Sense – Because I enjoy righteous indignation.
- What’s the most cost-effective watercolor paper? – Because it offers a definitive answer.
- Watercolor Paint Consistency Scales, Ranked – Because I made myself laugh.
- Mixing Watercolor Greens for the Foliage of the Northeast, Season by Season – Because it sums up three years’ worth of nature observation.
And some posts I continually check for my own reference:
- Finding Lightfast Gouache Pigments – A chart that answers the question “can you get this pigment in gouache?”
- Single-Brand Watercolor Palette Ideas – Helpful for building a palette for yourself or others, especially if you’re in a shopping situation where only some brands are available.
- Color List – This list sorts all my Color Spotlights by color, so you can find all the colors in the same “slot”. The Color Spotlights help me remember what I thought of various colors and why. I occasionally update them if my opinions change or I get more info (e.g. I try another brand).
Blog Changes
After two years, I finally made some changes to usability, including adding the search bar to mobile and adding a long-overdue Post Archive where you can look back at allll my past posts. That link is now on the top bar (or menu on mobile), and I’ve moved my personal social/external links (to Instagram, Etsy, and Unsplash) to the about me page.
Please feel free to let me know if there’s anything that would make your life easier as you browse the site for (specific or general) back content from me!
