There are multiple colors named Quinacridone Magenta, but the one I’m using today is PR202 from Daniel Smith. It’s duller than PR122 or PV19 magentas, so I haven’t used it as much, but I’ve realized recently that it can achieve quite dark mixes. I used it as part of my autumn leaf mixes this fall, and I decided to play more with it by putting it in my advent calendar. I painted a desert scene, using Quinacridone Magenta in the mix for the shadows.

I also glazed over the shadows at the end with more Quinacridone Magenta, since my mix with Raw Sienna and Cobalt Blue mainly looked like I had recreated Indian Red. I do like the effect; it’s kinda striking, don’t you think?
There is also some QM mixed into the Phthalo Blue GS sky to make it a bit duller and less turquoise. Finally, I mixed some QM into the foliage to darken it, but I probably shouldn’t have since it ended up black! The Raw Sienna + PBGS was dull enough.
