The ultimate in cool colors! I put these blues here because I kept seeing different lists which slotted them as either cool or warm blues indiscriminately, and since I think they have neither violet nor green undertones, and can kind of chameoleon either way, I think they’re their own thing.

- Cobalt Blue (PB28) ⭐ – also appears on Violet Blue, Earth Blue
- Phthalo Blue Red Shade (PB15:1 or PB15:6) ⭐ – also appears on Cyan
My thoughts
Necessary slot? It depends. I think you need some blues, preferably a few that are distinct from each other in various ways. Many people go the split primary route and opt for a violet blue and a cyan, leaving out the middle blues. You can certainly do that. But I really like these blues and find them convenient especially for skies. I don’t know that I would choose one of these as my only blue, but I could easily live with one of these + a dark blue.
